***UPDATE: As of Monday morning the 25th, there are still no signs of Kate’s impending arrival. We’re now a week and a day past the midwives’ due date and a week and four days past the traditional due date. We’ve tried ankle rubs, walking, sitting on the exercise ball and a chiropractic adjustment but so far, no change. We go to the midwives’ today for an appointment in the afternoon.***
Here’s a post I never thought I’d write!
Oh, yes, here we are at 41 weeks and one day past my conservative due date! Kate has already stayed in two days longer than her brothers did. The good news is, the boys can finish out their school week! Neither of them like to miss so it looks like we’re in good shape! We have no plans for the weekend, of course, so she is welcome to come at any time!!
I actually feel really fantastic. She seems to be sitting a little lower so I’m not as uncomfortable. I get some sensations and tightening now and then but nothing more than mildly annoying. I’m eating and sleeping great and have zero anxiety so I am incredibly grateful!
The only “complaint” is just waiting to meet her!! And of course the reality of labor and delivery is more and more real with every passing day. And she’s getting bigger by the day, too! It’s hard to pass the time and just lean in to the process without getting anxious. I’m trying to stay distracted and comfortable! The weekend will definitely drag on if she’s not here yet.
This was Sunday the 17th at what the midwives count as my due date, I count as 40 weeks 3 days. After my dad’s birthday lunch.
This one was Tuesday the 19th at well past 40 weeks.
I don’t have any pictures past that because I haven’t really “gotten dressed” for anything. I’m conserving my energy. Ha!

We saw the midwife Wednesday when I was what they count as 40 weeks three days. She did an exam to determine for sure that Kate is still head down and she is. Thank God! In doing so, she said I was a little soft and maybe 2.5 cm dilated. Definitely wasn’t looking like anything was imminent and obviously it wasn’t!!
She warned me about spotting after the exam, which I did have a bit of right away BUT, I also had a lot of brownish-red gloppy gook off and on ever since, even up to a pretty good gob this morning. In my research it seems like it’s either the mucus plug coming out in chunks, or the bloody show. We were really hoping that was a good sign but, here we are Friday morning and nothing is happening (well, except that). As much as I’m looking for “signs” of impending labor…I have a feeling I’m just going to GO INTO LABOR and there we will be!
Yesterday she didn’t do her usual antics at 10pm and she seems to be more “centered,” as if she’s positioned more over my cervix, but I don’t feel any pressure. The midwife said she hadn’t dropped or engaged, but many third babies don’t until you’re actually dilating and contracting pretty good, in early labor.
Really, it’s just a “wait and see” and we won’t know anything until true labor starts up and we’ve had none of that! I’m just waiting for that first good contraction! With boy boys, I knew right away “This is IT!” That was at about 4:00am with both, so I keep thinking that will happen again but of course it could be at any time.
I am grateful to feel this well and to be able to just carry on with normal everyday life! Bottom line, we’re almost certainly a week away from meeting our daughter but with every passing day, I just yearn to see her all the more.
Hopefully the next update is her birth announcement!
